A Hidden Heart Defect Threatens 5-Year-Old Pukaneshkumar's Future – Your Support Can Save His Life

Five-year-old Master Pukaneshkumar, from Dharmapuri District, is a bright Class I student studying in a Government School. Like many children his age, he loved going to school, playing with friends, and enjoying a carefree childhood. His family never imagined that a routine school health screening would uncover a serious congenital heart disease silently affecting his life.

Until then, Pukaneshkumar showed no symptoms and appeared to be perfectly healthy. During the medical examination conducted at his school, doctors detected an abnormal heart condition and immediately referred him to the free cardiac screening camp conducted by MIOT Hospitals at Dharmapuri Government Hospital. Following the screening, he was advised to undergo detailed evaluation at MIOT Hospitals.

After comprehensive investigations, doctors diagnosed him with a Large Posterior Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Drainage (PAPVD) of the Right Pulmonary Vein to the Right Atrium (RPLV to RA). Without timely treatment, these defects can gradually enlarge his heart, lead to pulmonary hypertension, and cause life-threatening complications in the future.

To give him the chance to live a normal and healthy life, the medical team has recommended early surgical closure of the ASD along with re-routing of the abnormal pulmonary vein to the left atrium.

The total cost of this life-saving surgery is ₹2,85,000, covering the surgery, ICU care, hospital stay, investigations, medicines, and post-operative treatment.

For Pukaneshkumar's family, this amount is impossible to arrange. His father, Mr. Gopal, is a daily wage construction labourer earning around ₹800 per day when work is available. Since employment is seasonal and irregular, the family's income is uncertain. As the only earning member, he struggles to provide food, education, and basic necessities for his children, making the cost of this surgery far beyond the family's reach.

Today, this little boy's future depends on the kindness of compassionate people.
