Priyadharshini is a 16-year-and-6-month-old girl from Thiruvallur District, currently studying Class XII in a Government Higher Secondary School. She is known among her teachers and classmates as a bright student who consistently stands first in her studies. Education is her only path to a better life, and she has always worked hard with the hope of lifting her family out of poverty.

Until recently, Priyadharshini was active, healthy, and full of dreams.

During a routine school health check-up, doctors noticed worrying signs and immediately referred her for further evaluation. She was taken to a free cardiac screening camp conducted by MIOT Hospitals at Thiruvallur Government Hospital. After detailed tests at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai, her family received devastating news—Priyadharshini has a serious congenital heart defect, where the right-sided pulmonary veins abnormally drain into the right atrium.

A Silent Illness Threatening a Young Life

What makes this condition especially frightening is that it showed no early symptoms. Though she excelled in academics, her heart was silently struggling. Doctors have now advised urgent corrective heart surgery, involving re-routing the affected pulmonary veins to the left atrium. Without this surgery, Priyadharshini risks long-term complications that could end her education and threaten her life.

With timely medical intervention, she can return to school, continue her studies, and live a normal, healthy life.

The Cost They Cannot Afford

The estimated cost of the surgery, including hospital care and treatment, is ₹2,80,000.

Priyadharshini’s father, Mr. Kumar, is a daily-wage construction labourer, earning around ₹900 per day only when work is available. His employment is irregular, and there are many days without income. The family struggles to manage even basic necessities, making this life-saving surgery completely beyond their financial capacity.
