Help 6-Year-Old Lakshana Undergo Life-Saving Heart Treatment

Six-year-old Lakshana, a cheerful Class I student from Krishnagiri District, is the elder daughter of her family and studies in a Government school. Like many children, she attended a routine school health screening with no visible signs of illness. What seemed like an ordinary check-up soon changed her life forever.

During the screening, doctors suspected a heart condition and referred her to a free cardiac screening camp conducted by MIOT Hospitals at the Government Hospital, Krishnagiri. Following a detailed medical evaluation and further investigations, Lakshana was diagnosed with a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect in which a blood vessel that should close naturally after birth remains open.

Although Lakshana currently does not show any symptoms, doctors have advised an elective PDA device closure to prevent serious complications such as heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and recurrent infections in the future. Timely treatment will give her the opportunity to lead a healthy and active life.

The estimated cost of the procedure is ₹1,40,000, which includes the cardiac intervention, ICU care, hospital stay, post-operative investigations, medicines, and other essential medical expenses.

Lakshana's family is struggling under severe financial hardship. Her father is a daily wage agricultural labourer, earning around ₹500 per day only when work is available. He is also affected by speech and hearing impairment, which greatly limits his employment opportunities and earning capacity. Her mother, Mrs. Asha, works in a mobile phone packing unit, earning approximately ₹13,000 per month, while managing the household and caring for the family.

Despite working tirelessly, the family's combined income is barely enough to meet their basic daily needs. Raising ₹1,40,000 for Lakshana's treatment is simply beyond their means.
