Born with a Failing Heart, 4-Year-Old Kanushka Now Faces Her Second Life-Saving Surgery

From the moment she entered this world, little Kanushka has been fighting to live.

Hailing from a humble village in Kanchipuram district, 4-year-old Kanushka was born with a congenital heart defect. At just one year old, she had her first major open-heart surgery — a complex procedure involving VSD closure, tricuspid valve repair, and pulmonary valvotomy.

Her parents thought the worst was over. But fate had other plans.

Since then, Kanushka has shown worrying signs: facial puffiness, abdominal swelling, breathlessness, and poor weight gain. She doesn’t run or play like other children her age. She tires quickly and clings to her mother, often asking, “Amma, why can’t I run like the other kids?”

Recently, doctors at MIOT Hospitals confirmed what her family feared — Kanushka needs a second urgent surgery to survive. This time, it’s another tricuspid valve repair and a right BDG procedure to support her weakening heart.
