Last September CHIME had helped to treat Gopika Sree who was then two months old.  The child was diagnosed with a congenital defect soon after birth. Both parents -  Dorairaj & Baby – lived in Chitoor, AP. Although educated, due to the pandemic they eked a living at home weaving bed sheets and towels.

After the surgery the parents separated as Durairaj and his family believed that the child’s illness was due to “some neglect” by the mother during her pregnancy.  For the past year Baby lives with her mother and younger sister at Rajahmundry.  They are themselves very poor and her sister has discontinued education due to poverty. Baby could not take up any job as Gopika needs her and so she works for a daily wage, cleaning, washing vessels  in two houses and in the evening does tailoring for her neighbours. Her mother is unable to work anymore and makes detergents at home to take care of their needs.

As Gopika was always afflicted with cold, local doctors suggested she take her to MIOT for a check up.  Doctors at MIOT Hospitals have said another surgery has to be undertaken.

Gopika is diagnosed to have complex DORV {? Double outlet both ventricles} with VSD & PDA, s/p PA band + PDA division.

She is advised to undergo Cardiac Cathetarization and hemodynamic study for a possible univentricular repair.

Estimate Cost – Rs.3,50,000  including surgery, ICU & Hospital stay, Post op investigations and medications

Please do kindly help  this single parent – mother and child just cling to each other and Baby breaks down in tears as she just cannot see any way she can take this on.
